Shadow dancers
Attraction, who hail from Hungary, won the ITV show.
Violinist Natalie Holt,
30 — booted off BGT last year with string quartet Raven — ran from her place in
the orchestra to the front of the stage and hurled five eggs from a box.
Cowell’s jacket and
shirt were splattered with yolk before grinning Natalie was led away by
security.
Bemused opera act Richard and Adam Johnson
carried on singing as she stood between them launching the eggs one by one.
Richard said: “I thought Simon was going to
get killed. She had what looked like a hard, shiny object.”
Natalie later apologised, saying: “It was a
silly thing to do.”
Cowell, 53, declined to press charges. At the
end of the show he quipped: “I would say that Britain’s Got Talent has got the
Eggs-Factor.”
At first he thought Natalie was part of the
brothers’ act before ducking for cover. Removing his egg-smeared jacket, he
told the audience and 13million viewers: “I sent a tweet yesterday saying I
don’t like eggs. I really don’t like them now. I’ve no idea what that was all
about, so whoever’s watching, I apologise.”
Picking a piece of eggshell from his shirt,
he added: “I thought she was throwing sandwiches.”
Fellow judge Amanda Holden, 42, said: “The
only person who has egg on her face is that stupid cow.”
Comic
Jack Carroll, 14, who came on stage after Richard and Adam, joked:
“Can I just say, I was going to run on and throw some eggs, so thanks for
ruining that.”
A source at the studios in North London said:
“In the break between acts Simon was led off stage to sort himself out. He was
obviously shaken. A few minutes later he appeared by the stage smoking a
cigarette. I guess he was trying to calm his nerves.
“When he walked back on he was given a round
of applause and David Walliams gave him a standing ovation.”
David was also spotted reassuring Simon’s
ex-girlfriend Sinitta.
Natalie later apologised to Richard and Adam
for sabotaging their performance. A source said she had dismissed her actions
as a joke at first. The source added: “As far as she was concerned, it was just
a prank. But when she was told the police had been called it sank in and she
got very upset.
“Natalie was so grateful when she heard that
Simon wasn’t going to press charges. After that happened she was sent home.”
Natalie studied violin at the Royal Academy
of Music before forming Raven with Stephanie Benedetti, Rachael Lander and
Kirsty Mangan in 2007.
The group played to 80,000 spectators
alongside Madness at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics. Natalie has
also worked with George Michael, Take That and The Libertines. Facebook
pictures show her in a bikini and posing with Friends star Matt LeBlanc.
Last night the quartet tweeted: “So. Any
ideas who this #eggwoman is from the #bgtfinal? We’ve got a good idea. Just to
clarify. The other 3 of us were working elsewhere today and found out when you
did. We were as surprised as all of you.”
Singer Richard said he feared the stunt would
always mean he and Adam were remembered as the “Egg Brothers”.
He added: “When she was throwing the eggs my
mind played tricks and I thought we were in rehearsals, then I realised, no, we
are on live TV.
“Seven years the show has been going and this
happens to us. We are gutted.
“Simon said ‘I’m so sorry, You didn't deserve
that. You did amazing.” The Met Police said officers had been called to the
studios but no one was arrested.
