Banker arrested for armed robbery in Kano


A banker with one of the new generation banks in Kano State, (names withheld), has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command, on charges of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The suspect was arrested after he had allegedly conspired with another suspect, who is currently at large, to rob a customer of his bank of N4,755,200.00K on June 17, 2013, along Zaria Road in the state capital.
Speaking on the incident, during a press conference held yesterday, Kano State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Musa Daura, explained that the suspects had armed themselves with a pistol and a knife with which they attacked the customer on his way to the bank to deposit the money.
The police said following the robbery, the suspects were vigorously pursued by the members of the community, alongside the security officers within range and were eventually arrested with the stolen money still in their procession.
He disclosed that the revolver pistol loaded with three live ammunition and a knife were recovered from the suspect upon his arrest, while adding that efforts were being made to arrest the other fleeing suspect.
Meanwhile, the police in the state have announced the arrest of 273 armed robbery suspects in the state since the beginning of the year, adding that a total of 3241 criminal suspects were arrested in the state within the same period.
In the mid year breakdown of arrests made, the police said 52 cases of armed robbery were reported to them by the members of the public, adding that they recovered 30 motor vehicles, 98 GSM, gold and jewelries, clothing materials and house breaking implements.
Other exhibits recovered within the same period, according to the police, included cutlasses, swords, sticks, pumping machines, electric generators, 6300 counterfeit notes among others.
