NDLEA arrests 70 in Enugu for drug-related offences

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Enugu State has arrested 70 persons so far for drug-related offences in the state. Read more

The agency said that among those arrested were eight females, and stated that it had intensified its campaign against drug abuse.
The Enugu NDLEA Commander, Anthony Ohanyere, made this disclosure while speaking at an occasion to mark this year’s United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking in the state.
Ohanyere, a lawyer, said that within the period of the arrests, 595.717 kilogrammes of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, popularly known as ‘hemp’, was seized.
He said, “6.2g and 0.5g of substances suspected to be cocaine and heroin were also confiscated.”
The Enugu NDLEA boss said that 13 persons were successfully prosecuted and convicted at the Federal High Court, Enugu, “while 35 drug addicts were successfully rehabilitated during the same period.”
