Actresses lend their voice for Hear Word!

 

Renowned female artistes will feature in a new theatre production entitled Hear Word! at the MUSON Centre, Lagos beginning from May 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16 22 and 23 respectively.more...

The artistes include: Joke Silva, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, Kate Henshaw, Bimbo Akintola, Elvina Ibru, Deborah Ohiri, Lala Akindoju, Zara Udofia, Rita Edward, Ufuoma Mcdermott, Omonor Somolu, and Odenike Odetola-Odeleye.

The sponsors of the play include Etisalat, Cool Fm, Vlisco, Farouz, MUSON Centre and Africa Magic.

Founder of iOpenEye production and director of Hear Word! Ifeoma Fafunwa said

“ the play is a collection of true live stories. It is a poignant, joyous, and emotionally charged showcase of female self discovery and the numerous challenges faced by Nigerian women. It also examines social practices and beliefs that oppress, reject and limit the potentials of Nigerian women. The play also inspires women to move beyond barriers and realize their full potentials in order to contribute to decision making and nation building.”

 Joke Silva noted that one of the roles that played in the play was about the pressure that women encounter. For example, mothers pressurize their children on their education and after graduation, they also pressurize them to get married. The message is that mother will always want their best for their children.

Kate Henshaw said: “ I am a woman advocate and I will always lend my voice and I hope that it will bring about a change in the society.”

Bimbo Akintola said: “I am very passionate about this play and am always ready to support women that will help to change their lives positively. We need to work at protecting our children especially the girl-child from evil. In the play, we are educating our men the way they should behave and it is high time that we change our society positively. 

Lolo Eremie, Head of Events, Cool Fm disclosed that the radio station is supporting the play because “ We believe that Hear Word! is informative and educative. It is a catalyst for social reform in the society. It is an unconventional platform and people will have a different mindset after they would have watched the play.”
