Army raids Boko Haram hideout in Sokoto

…Recovers explosive, arrests suspects

Army authorities in Sokoto State have confirmed the arrest of a Boko Haram member, Malam Mubarak, aka Dan Hajia, with explosive materials in his custody. Read more

The prime suspect was arrested alongside other suspects in a joint operation carried out in the state.
The Army spokesman, Captain Musa Yahaya, while briefing journalists yesterday, disclosed that various arms, ammunition and bomb-making materials were recovered from the hideout on Sunday at Nakasare area of Sokoto metropolis.
He said the army and State Security Service (SSS) operatives in the state jointly carried out the operation. Musa said the interrogation of scores of suspects arrested earlier, led to the apprehension of the prime suspects along Sokoto-Birni Kebbi Road.
His words: “On Sunday at about 8:30p.m, we raided the house of one Malam Mubarak, aka Dan Hajia, a suspected Boko Haram member at Nakasare area of Sokoto South Local Government Area of the state. It is an ongoing operation with scores of suspects now in our custody and investigations are still ongoing.”
He listed items recovered from the suspect’s hideout to include, three AK-47 rifles, one riot gun, 153 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 21 prime explosive cylinders, 27 primed small tin cans of explosives, three cartons of acid, six voltage batteries, bunch of detonator cables, four containers of chemical substance and 14 knockout devices.
