Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako yesterday gave more insight into his face-off with the embattled National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

Recall that Nyako was one of the seven governors who stormed out of the Eagles Square venue of last Saturday’s mini national convention of the party in Abuja.
They were joined by former vice president Atiku Abubakar, former PDP National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former national officer, Alhaji Kawu Baraje and others to form a splinter group they called “New PDP”. Baraje and Oyinlola emerged chairman and secretary respectively of the break-away group.
Nyako,who spoke at a rally heralding the New PDP at Ribadu Square,Yola, claimed that the national chairman, has not made any significant contributions to the development of the party in the state. He accused Tukur of assuming the position of God in running the affairs of the party hence, the promotion of a reign of impunity never seen before in the party.
Nyako said Tukur’s posture had made many people to be wiser and their determination not to tolerate such whimsical injustice leading to the uproar that is now setting the party on edge. Read more
Claiming that he influenced the victories of the party in the state, he did not in any way champion a reign of impunity in the PDP.
He said that his stance did not allow Abuja-based politicians who did not make contributions to the success of the party to hijack it at the detriment of patriotic faithful even as he said that his face-off with Tukur was to reclaim PDP.
“My mission to engage the national Chairman is to return the party to its lost glory. I and Tukur share many things in common but despite our similarities, I deemed it fit to challenge the surfeit of atrocities he is perpetrating in the party which led to its present quagmire.
“I am ever ready to challenge any form of anarchy and travesty of justice being perpetrated by any one in order to bequeath a lasting legacy for the sake of posterity regardless of the consequences”, he said.
According to him,the current wind of change blowing across the land was a sign that the people are fed up with the impunity currently in vogue in the party.
“Since the coming of Tukur, the party has never known peace as he resorted to working in cahoots with few elements whose sole aim is to use the party platform to achieve their selfish goals”.
He said he had to join well-meanig democrats to the “New PDP”,following the departure of the party from the ideologies of its founding fathers, some democrats felt that it was time for them to restore order to the embattled party which led to its factionalization.
