PDP crisis spreads to Bayelsa

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has spread to Bayelsa State, home state of President Goodluck Jonathan with loyalists of former governor, Timipre Sylva declaring for the Alhaji Kawu Baraje-led faction. Read more

Incidentally, Baraje was the acting chairman of the PDP when political forces from the state barred Sylva from participating in the governorship primaries of the party and replaced him with Governor Henry Dickson.
Former special adviser on security matters to Sylva, Mr. Richard Kpodoh is leading the PDP faction in the state. Others are the former publisher of the Spynet magazine and close friend of Timipre Sylva, Mr. Sidi Godwin, the former commissioner for water resources, Chief K. D. Francis Itiokeife, the former chairman, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Council, Ineye Ingbaifegha, Sir Tonye Okio, Alabo Martins, Abel Ogboma, Timi Frank, Abule Okara and Braboke Stanley.
In a message to the PDP members in the state, the factional members said real PDP members were re-grouping in the state to tell the whole world that they were supporting Alhaji Baraje and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
“Let the old PDP impunity and injustice pass away and a new dawn break over Nigeria with the new authentic PDP. Nigeria has never been more divided, the Niger Delta has never been more divided, Bayelsa State has never been more divided. The new authentic PDP is our only hope. Let’s keep promises. That is what Ijaws are known for,” they said.
According to the group, more members who had been alienated from the party in the state had pledged loyalty to the group.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Mr. Preye Agama has dissociated himself from a newly formed group known as New Bayelsa PDP, noting that his loyalty to the second term aspiration of the President Goodluck Jonathan is total and unshakeable.
