The late Pa Fashola, who worked with the defunct Daily Times of Nigeria Ltd for many years and rose to the position of an advertisement manager, had been ill for some time, it was learnt yesterday.
A statement by the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Lanre Babalola, reads: “In total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, we announce the passage of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ibrahim Ademola Bayo Fashola, which occurred on August 5 at the age of 80.
“He is survived by wives, children and great grandchildren. He will be buried at Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos on Tuesday, August 6th at 1pm.”
The Nation learnt that Fashola, who is observing Umrah (lesser hajj) in Saudi Arabia, has cut short his pilgrimage and is expected in Lagos today to witness his father’s funeral.
Civil servants at the state’s secretariat, Alausa were seen in groups discussing the incident. They sympathised with the governor on the death of his father, whom they described as “jovial” and “amiable”.
A reporter recalled how the late governor’s father entertained him when he wanted to interview him.
“I went to his house to interview him, but to my surprise, Baba refused to grant me the interview. But he received me well and entertained me. He lived a simple life. I pray that God should grant him eternal rest.”
A member of the House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Bush Alebiosu, said: “We have lost a gem. May Allah give the Fashola family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
