Bamidele, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Budget and Research is contesting the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.
During the fracas that almost marred the event, some guests sustained injuries while some exotic cars including those in the convoy of the federal lawmaker either had their windscreens smashed or damaged.
The secretariats of both sides also recorded some losses as they were vandalized. Leaders of both sides are pointing the finger at each other.
Eyewitnesses told journalists that the fracas broke out at 4.30pm shortly after a prominent member of the Yoruba militant group, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), (name withheld) arrived the scene with some men suspected to be political thugs.
A source told Sunday Sun: “We knew it was going to result in violence. I noticed that as soon as he and his thugs arrived that their mission was going to cause trouble and disrupt this event.”
Upon arrival at the venue, the OPC leader and his men were said to have gone to where to where Bamidele’s supporters were seated, leading to an altercation.
Though he could not say what led to the crisis, stones and broken bottles were thrown indiscriminately, causing commotion at the party attended by some chieftains of the party including the caretaker chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, Hon. Tajudeen Awe.
When journalists visited the campaign office of Hon Bamidele at Basiri area of Ado-Ekiti, broken bottles littered the area and the louvre blades of several windows were broken.
