Apparently thinking that he might reach out for the gun and shoot them, one of the hoodlums opened fire on him at close range.
The hoodlums were said to have also visited a senior police officer who lives in the next flat to the slain corporal and came out of his apartment without hurting him and his family.
Baale of Irewon community, Chief Bolanle Odukoya, lamented the growing insecurity in the Ijebu axis of the state and across the country and blamed the government for it.

He berated government’s refusal of calls to allow local security operatives otherwise called ‘vigilance group,’ carry light weapons with which they can confront robbers when they visit their area. The community head said that the inability of security agencies to license light weapons for them to confront the heavy AK 47 rifle of the hoodlums was inimical to the security in the state.
According to him, it would be difficult for any vigilance group member to confront armed robbers without guns. Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, adding that the police command had instituted high powered investigations into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
