Last week in Lagos, M.I was endorsed as the
Energy Ambassador for Lagos State to flag-off the dedication of October as the
‘‘Energy Conservation Month’’ by the state government.
The energy conservation campaign titled;
Conserve Energy, Save Money (CESM) will use behaviourial change communication
materials to carry step by step, do-it-yourself instructions on energy
efficiency and conservation improvements to help Lagosians save money and make
Lagos city more energy efficient. M.I will use his new role to participate in
series of sensitization campaigns on energy conservation across Lagos. The CESM
campaign is being carried out through the state Ministry of Energy and Mineral
Resources and the Lagos State Electricity Board (LSEB).
M.I said; “ I am excited to be a part of
the Lagos State Government energy initiative and much more to be called upon to
advocate for energy conservation in a country where 24-hour uninterrupted
electric power supply is a miracle yet yet to be realized.
In his words, ‘‘I’m so honoured and
privileged to be collaborate with people who are so passionate about the future
of our country and the future of this great state. I see this as a way of
giving back to the state because it has welcomed so many young people and has
given us something to do and paid us handsomely for it. If there is anything we
can do, we have to give back, and we have to seize the bull by the horn.’’
Also, Taofiq Tijani, State Commissioner for
Energy and Mineral Resources, said the state government decided to dedicate
October as the Energy Conservation Month in a bid to make Lagosians imbibe the
culture of efficient use of available power and to preserve the investments
going into the generation of power through the building of power plants as a
shared responsibility.
‘As a government, we are mindful of the
fact, the provision of public assets is one thing but to endure, their
maintenance must be a shared collective responsibility for all. It is with this recognition that I am
therefore delighted to formally announce the decision of the Lagos State
Government to dedicate the month of October 2013 as the first ever Energy
Conservation Month to be observed by the government and people of Lagos
State.’’
