Corrupt judges know fate today as NJC sits

The all-important meeting which coincided with Justice Aloma-Mukhtar’s one year in office is creating serious anxiety in the judiciary given that 36 petitions involving judges at various courts are ready for consideration at today’s meeting.

The NJC had already sent two judges packing with another on one year suspension over acts bordering on corruption. Apart from judges, other judicial officers are also casualties of the anti- corruption war especially the recent dismissal of six workers who connived with Senator Alphonsus Igbeke to leak the judgment of the Supreme Court.

Daily Sun reporter who was at the premises of the Supreme Court, Abuja, which also houses the NJC office, witnessed the movements of files by officials and other arrangements preparatory to the meeting. Justice Aloma-Mukthar had upon assumption of office, directed the Chief Judges of the 36 states to forward names of judicial officers with some bad records to her office.

Following the directives, the office of the CJN was inundated with hundreds of petitions, some of which have been thrown out as frivolous.

The CJN is also Chairman of the NJC. Justice Aloma-Mukhtar said recently that about 36 petitions alleging acts of unethical practices were before the NJC.

Daily Sun learnt that a female judge on the bench of the Federal High Court might be affected by the expected tsunami for embarking on judicial recklessness when she upturned the judgment of a Court of Appeal, which is a superior court in the hierarchy of courts.

Her brother colleague from the same division of the court is also likely to be affected for having excess money in his account. Majority of the petitions bordered on acts of corruption and alleged junk judgments and other issues of maladministration, alleged shielding of corrupt subordinates and leadership crises of political parties.
